Who Wrote Holden Caulfield? | Green Day

Happy 21st Birthday to Kerplunk!

Green Day interviews - Part 3

  • Tre Cool: Well, we went to church, Billie and I. A friend of ours was having some, sort of like 'baby ritual' at the church... I don't know what the hell they call it.
  • Zane: I think it's called baptism.
  • Tre Cool: So he invited us and we went and we just noticed that a lot of direct contradictions that the 'preacher guy' was talking about... He said, you know 'Keep an open mind' and maybe then like 2 minutes later he's like 'Don't think so much, don't have an opinion'.
  • Mike Dirnt: He was like 'Don't listen to secular music'.
  • Zane Lowe: He did not say that...
  • Tre Cool: He did.
  • Zane Lowe: You're kidding, in the 21st Century that's still on the menu?
  • Billie Joe: East Jesus Nowhere is just kind of pointing out the hypocrisy in religion. I mean, religion is for people... there's good ways of using it but a lot of bad ways.
  • Mike Dirnt: It's OK to question everything but you know, you can't argue faith but it's okay to question it.
