Bruce, Steve and E street Band + Miami Horns - Drift Away
From the Meadowlands show on August 20th 1984.
This was on one of my very first vinyl bootleg albums, released a few years after this show.
It’s a crappy sounding recording, but I fell in love with it, and it moves me as much today, some quarter century later ( holy shit!! ) as it did, the first time I heard it.
I don’t even like Dobie Gray’s version, as much as this!
I loved Bruce already, but it was this track that began my love for live recordings, and 25 years down the line….let’s just say I have a fair few! lolDay after day I’m more confused
So I look for the light in the pouring rain
You know that’s a game that I hate to lose
I’m feelin’ the strain, ain’t it a shame
Oh, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Oh, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Beginning to think that I’m wastin’ time
I don’t understand the things I do
The world outside looks so unkind
I’m countin’ on you to carry me through
And when my mind is free
You know a melody can move me
And when I’m feelin’ blue
The guitar’s comin’ through to soothe me
Thanks for the joy that you’ve given me
I want you to know I believe in your song
Rhythm and rhyme and harmony
You help me along makin’ me strong
